Job Type: Full Time Position
Reports to: Head of School
Required: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and at least five years of experience of in an administrative role 
Work Days/Hours: 7:30am-3:30pm Monday-Wednesday & Friday; Thursday 7:30am- 4:30pm

 Job Summary: The Director of Human Resources and Finance is a school adminstration role responsible for overseeing and managing the organization's HR and financial operations. This position plays a critical role in driving strategic initiatives related to talent acquisition, employee engagement, compliance, and workforce development, while also ensuring sound financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

All Staff Responsibilities:
  • Provide a safe school environment, indoors and out, per directives regarding building operations (keys, fobs, alarm codes), the Daystar Distinctives and Responsive Classroom practices
  • Participate in a brief staff prayer to start the day at 7:35 sharp on Monday through Thursday in the Gathering Place
  • Participate in school engagement events to promote positive school culture
  • Complete arrival and dismissal duties as assigned
  • Fulfill essential job functions based on one’s specific job description; and during times of school drills or emergencies, assist others as able
  • Be on time, appropriately dressed and ready for work at assigned days/times
  • Adhere to all of the requirements outlined in the Staff Handbook and comply with the school policies
  • Be an excellent ambassador of Daystar Academy at all times
 
Essential Job Functions Relative to role as Director of HR: 
  • Collaborate with the admin team to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategy needs, which includes workplace culture and climate
  • Oversee the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Manage and administer staff payroll through ADP payroll system
  • Oversee and monitor staff absences and tardies in collaboration with the Office Manager
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to the admin team
  • Develop and implements departmental budget, including staff salaries each fiscal year 
  • Facilitate and/or coordinates professional development, training, and certification activities for staff 
  • Oversee assignment of CPDUs set up on ISBE and provide proper documentation
  • Write and revise job descriptions and work agreements
  • Develop, review and revise program policies and procedures, including the employee handbook
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, development, retention and separation of employees.
  • Create and implement ongoing performance management system (i.e. evaluation process) in collaboration with the admin team
  • Conduct and coordinate interview selection process and screening interviews
  • Acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications
  • Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
  • Coordinate training requirements for staff in collaboration with directors of programs
  • Co-lead Crisis Management team, update Crisis Manual and train all staff on crisis prevention and management
  • Maintain employees’ files in compliance with Illinois State Board of Education and the law
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Head of School and admin team
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head of School 

Essential Job Functions Relative to role as Director of Finance:
  • Lead the budgeting process, working closely with the administration team to ensure accurate and aligned forecasts. Monitor and adjust financial forecasts as necessary.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Head of School, ensuring clarity and actionable insights
  • Oversee cash flow, ensuring the organization maintains sufficient liquidity for operations and future growth
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue generation, and process improvement
  • Manage audits and implement necessary compliance practices
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the Head of School and school board for business planning, investments, and long-term financial growth
  • Manage school budget, accounts payable, accounts receivable, petty cash and bank deposits.
  • Administer staff reimbursement for business expenses.
  • Allocate Daystar credit cards to appropriate staff.
  • Process requisitions for the procurement of supplies, instructional materials, furniture and equipment.
  • Administer and update RenWeb.
  • Manage financial aid for Daystar families (FACTS).
  • Attend Finance Committee meetings and Board meetings.
  • Respond to inquiries concerning school operations
  • Act as Head of School designee.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Essential Functions Relative to Member of Daystar’s Administrative Team:
  • Provide reports to the Daystar Board as requested.
  • Serve on schoolwide committees as requested.
  • Participate in and assist with planning and implementation of staff wide professional development.
  • Participate in regular Administrative Team meetings, providing counsel and insight on areas impacting the school as a whole.
  • Participate in planning and management of schoolwide events including but not limited to back to school parent and student events, parent-teacher conferences, holiday programs, learning showcase nights, athletic banquets, middle and high school special events, and 8th and 12th grade graduation ceremonies.
